An independent state for nearly 800 years, Dubrovnik was similar to Venice in its political structure, while at its peak maintaining a fleet of over 350 trading vessels known as Karakas. Recently famous for its shooting locations in Game of Thrones, it has become a major tourist attraction in the last decades in Europe. Known for its well-preserved, walled old town, the city is a medieval time capsule, home to beautiful buildings and history.
